Most days when I’m at work, I’m too busy to think about getting in the car and traveling somewhere to eat lunch. I usually try to make lunches ahead of time, but there are days I just don’t feel like cooking either. These days there’s a solution to this problem and it’s called Lunchbox N’ More. Thao Beck, formerly one of the partners of the Mom’s Delicious Dishes food truck, has started a new business.
Each week Thao emails her menu [...]

Review – Artisan Pizza Kitchen in Chapel Hill

Spinach feta pizza

Sometimes you just get a hankering for a good pizza and I was in that kind of mood the other day, so Scott and I drove to downtown Chapel Hill in search of a decent pizza. We decided to try Artisan Pizza Kitchen (formerly known as Artichoke Basil) located right in the middle of Franklin Street. The outside isn’t much to look at and you could easily pass by this place if you are not paying attention, but it is [...]

Review – Daisy Cakes in Durham

coconut cupcake and a cup of tea

After spending a day watching documentaries at the Fullframe Documentary Festival and feeling uneasy about the world, it was a nice relief to take a stroll down Foster Street and see a sunny, pink daisy on the door that immediately made me smile. “It’s Daisy Cakes!” I declared. I had heard about Daisy Cakes back when they just had their food truck and were serving their cupcakes at the Durham Farmer’s Market.
About a year ago, they purchased this cute little [...]

Review-Liu Liu’s in Fort Mill, SC

orange chicken dish with side of vegetables

The month of April is one of the nicest times to live in North Carolina. I love the young, tender green leaves that are budding on the trees and bushes, the Carolina blue skies and the temperatures that are neither too cold or too hot. It’s a perfect time to find a place to dine outside.
Recently, my husband and I traveled to the Charlotte area to visit my old high school/college friend, Renee, and her family. She lives in Fort [...]

Review – The Steele Pig in Sanford

beef short ribs with succotash and garlic fries

My husband and I were in Sanford the other day and decided we wanted to find a place to eat in the downtown area. I had heard some good things about The Steele Pig, so we decided to check it out. It was easy to find parking on Steele Street and when we got there it was about 15 minutes before they opened for dinner, so we strolled around the block and did a little window shopping, then came back [...]

Review – Boylan Bridge Brewpub in Raleigh

fish and chips with sweet potato fries instead of traditional "chips."

My sister and brother-in-law wanted to get together the other night, so we decided to meet at Boylan Bridge Brewpub in Raleigh. They had taken a tour of the brewery a couple of weeks ago and were very impressed with their beer.
Boylan Bridge Brewpub is located in downtown, and has a really nice outdoor deck with a great view of the city. However the night we were there it was pretty cold, so we decided to eat inside. The menu [...]

Review-Vimala’s Curryblossom Cafe in Chapel Hill

Big shrimp in a curry sauce with long beans

Tucked in a little corner of The Courtyard off of Franklin Street and South Roberson Street is a warm, inviting cafe called Vimala’s Curryblossom Cafe. This cafe was an instant hit with students from UNC and residents of Chapel Hill, many who used to go to owner Vimala Rajendran’s home to get her wonderful Indian food.
I had heard from many people about this great lady who served the most incredible Indian dishes from her home several years ago. You just [...]
