Review – Sandwhich in Chapel Hill

Whichburger with fries

We all love the convenience of a fast food restaurant, but many people would prefer to have fresh, local, organic and sustainable ingredients in their food selection, including getting a sandwich. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could have both? Well, that’s what the folks at Sandwhich in Chapel Hill thought too.
We recently got a Groupon for Sandwhich that gave us a great excuse to try this place out. I had heard some good things about it but never got [...]

Review – 411 West in Chapel Hill

Penne Pasta

I always like to remind myself that even though it’s fun to try out the latest new places, I also like to go back to more established, classic restaurants that serve consistently good food. There’s a reason places like 411 West, an Italian restaurant owned by Chapel Hill Restaurant Group, are successful for many years.
We had a friend in town recently and decided to stroll down Franklin Street until we found something that looked good. We decided to go to [...]

group with 1930s costumes

Walking into the Top of the Hill last night, I felt like I was entering the cast of “Boardwalk Empire” and would run into Nuckey Thompson at any moment. No, this was not just any night at Top of the Hill, this was the Bootlegger’s Banquet, an event set to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the end of the Prohibition and what a great way to celebrate than to try out the new TOPO Piedmont Gin from Top of the [...]

Review – Mei Asian in Chapel Hill

bowl of curry soup

While strolling along Franklin Street the other night, my husband and I discovered a new Asian restaurant called Mei Asian. It’s a quaint, little restaurant near a clothing store and where the Bank of America used to be.
The décor is lovely with deep rust colored walls and modern artwork adorning the walls. There is a little bar in the back of the restaurant. The restaurant is family owned by Mei and her husband. Their two little daughters are often seen [...]

Review – Mint in Chapel Hill

Palak Paneer

The other night it was cold and blustery out and nothing sounded better than being able to dig into some warm, spicy Indian dishes. So, my husband and I ventured over to Mint in Chapel Hill.
Mint is located in downtown, on Franklin Street. The dark, modern furniture with the golden tones on the wall and minimal artwork make a pleasant impression. Lots of windows in the front give people a place to sit and look out at the activity happening [...]

Review – Tracy’s Deli in Chapel Hill

Reuben sandwich with dill pickle

I have tried to go to Tracy’s Deli in Chapel Hill for about a year, but every time I got to the location, it was closed. If you work outside of the Chapel Hill area, it is hard to get to this place when it’s open. The only time you could possibly eat here is on a Saturday morning. Tracy’s Deli was open for a time for dinner, and I tried to come at that time too, but it was [...]

Review-Margaret’s Cantina in Chapel Hill

quesadilla on a plate

I’ve been on a vegetarian kick lately, though I am by no means a vegetarian. I am just trying to cut down on my red meat intake and live a healthier lifestyle. One way I’ve been doing this is by participating in Meatless Monday. I made this my New Year’s resolution and am happy to say I’ve stuck to it this whole time! It’s actually way easier than you might think it would be.
One nice thing is that there are [...]

Review – Tarantini Italian Restaurant in Chapel Hill

Strawberries lining the top of this home made cheesecake

It was my husband’s birthday recently and we wanted to go somewhere special. We decided to try Tarantini Italian Restaurant near Governor’s Club. We heard that the food was supposed to be good and it’s certainly close to where we live.
Tarantini’s is in a little strip mall across the street from the main entrance to the Governor’s Club in Chatham County, just south of Chapel Hill. The building is separate from the rest of the strip mall and has a [...]

Review – Artisan Pizza Kitchen in Chapel Hill

Spinach feta pizza

Sometimes you just get a hankering for a good pizza and I was in that kind of mood the other day, so Scott and I drove to downtown Chapel Hill in search of a decent pizza. We decided to try Artisan Pizza Kitchen (formerly known as Artichoke Basil) located right in the middle of Franklin Street. The outside isn’t much to look at and you could easily pass by this place if you are not paying attention, but it is [...]

Review-Vimala’s Curryblossom Cafe in Chapel Hill

Big shrimp in a curry sauce with long beans

Tucked in a little corner of The Courtyard off of Franklin Street and South Roberson Street is a warm, inviting cafe called Vimala’s Curryblossom Cafe. This cafe was an instant hit with students from UNC and residents of Chapel Hill, many who used to go to owner Vimala Rajendran’s home to get her wonderful Indian food.
I had heard from many people about this great lady who served the most incredible Indian dishes from her home several years ago. You just [...]

Recap of Reviews on Eat It, NC

a collage of photos from the reviews I did at Eat It North Carolina

For several months I was writing reviews on Eat It, North Carolina, thanks to Charlie Brinson. He has been a great mentor and I so appreciate having been able to write entries on his blog. But it was making me feel really guilty that I was writing so much on someone else’s blog. That was one reason I decided to branch out on my own. So, in order to entice you to check out his blog, I’m going to give [...]
