Review – Pittsboro Roadhouse and General Store

Short ribs with corn relish and mashed potatoes

Our old neighbors were traveling through town, so we decided to try the new Pittsboro Roadhouse and General Store. Like a phoenix rising out of the ashes, one of our old favorite local restaurants was re-emerging to hopefully be a new favorite place to hang out. I think we left with mixed reviews and need to go again to really determine if it will be a regular hang out for us or not.
The new decor is really nice. I love [...]

Review – Oakleaf Restaurant in Pittsboro

Pan roasted salmon over a bed of peas.

A group of friends wanted to celebrate our friend’s upcoming wedding, so we decided to go to the Oakleaf Restaurant, located in Chatham Mills in Pittsboro, North Carolina. The Oakleaf recently opened in this old textile mill, and touts itself as an upscale farm-to-table restaurant. The menu changes frequently, depending on what is available at the farmer’s market. Many of the ingredients, in fact, are purchased at the Chatham Mill Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings, which is just outside the [...]

Road Trip – unWINEd in Chatham County

Joni and Ray in their shop

Sometimes you just want to get away from it all and unwind a little bit, right? Well, have I found the place for you! About six miles south of Pittsboro, off a little side street (Center Grove Church Road) from 15-501, is a quaint new business called unWINEd. UnWINEd is a wine bar that features all of our local best vintners. If you go, make sure you program your GPS, or look close for this street because there is no [...]

Tour of Dutch Buffalo Farm in Chatham County

Emily Lancaster kneeling in the field

We toured Dutch Buffalo Farm during the Piedmont Farm Tour back in late April. Turning off Hadley Mill Road onto Jay Shambley Road, you go by a subdivision and quickly get back into farmland. The road changes from pavement to gravel and soon you are at a quaint but very productive little farm run by Emily Lancaster and Farrell Moose.
We toured the farm with Emily’s father and then with Emily herself. The farm is not large at all. In fact [...]

Beausol Gardens Farm Tour in Chatham County

Close up photo of Harry LeBlanc

The first farm Scott and I decided to tour during the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association Piedmont Farm Tour this year was the Beausol Gardens. We had driven by this farm before and thought it was charming.
Once we met Harry LeBlanc, who is the owner, along with his wife, Deb Vail LeBlanc, we were amazed to hear all that Harry is doing at this farm. Harry and Deb use a very unique system of planting and growing called biodynamic farming. The [...]

Interview with Executive Chef Colin Bedford at Fearrington

Executive Chef Colin Bedford grilling sliders

The Triangle Foodie Tweetup met on April 25 at The Roost in Fearrington. It was threatening to rain earlier in the day, but ended up being a beautiful evening. Many fellow food and restaurant bloggers were at the event.
I was very excited to see Executive Chef Colin Bedford was outside manning the grill. The theme of the night was hotdogs and sliders, but, as you can imagine, these were served with special toppings. They also served fries that also had [...]

Recap of Reviews on Eat It, NC

a collage of photos from the reviews I did at Eat It North Carolina

For several months I was writing reviews on Eat It, North Carolina, thanks to Charlie Brinson. He has been a great mentor and I so appreciate having been able to write entries on his blog. But it was making me feel really guilty that I was writing so much on someone else’s blog. That was one reason I decided to branch out on my own. So, in order to entice you to check out his blog, I’m going to give [...]

Review – Small B&B Cafe in Pittsboro

Lisa and David owners of the Small Cafe

There’s a cozy new restaurant that has opened in downtown Pittsboro. The Small B&B Cafe is part of the Small Bed and Breakfast, on the corner of Small Street and East Street (also known as Business Highway 64). Owners Lisa Piper and Dave Clark recently moved to our little slice of heaven from Minneapolis, Minnesota where they used to run a coffee shop and cafe.
Lisa and Dave are continuing their tradition of serving seasonal, local and organic food in a [...]
