Review – 411 West in Chapel Hill

Penne Pasta

I always like to remind myself that even though it’s fun to try out the latest new places, I also like to go back to more established, classic restaurants that serve consistently good food. There’s a reason places like 411 West, an Italian restaurant owned by Chapel Hill Restaurant Group, are successful for many years.
We had a friend in town recently and decided to stroll down Franklin Street until we found something that looked good. We decided to go to [...]

Review – Anna’s Pizzeria in Apex, NC

Rustical personal pizza

My husband and I were in Apex the other day as we are taking our dachshund to get treatments at Harmony Animal Hospital. We were in the mood for pizza, so we asked the staff if there was a good pizza place in town. Several people suggested we try Anna’s Pizzeria, so we decided to give it a try.
Anna’s Pizzeria is located right in the middle of the historical downtown section of Apex. Its cheery exterior was immediately welcoming. We [...]

Review: Pie Pushers Food Truck – Pizza with Local Ingredients

Pie Pushers truck at the RTP food truck rodeo

I don’t know about you, but one food I usually crave is a good pizza. Nothing is better than one that is steaming hot, right out of the oven, with lots of mozzarella cheese and garlic!

Review – Tarantini Italian Restaurant in Chapel Hill

Strawberries lining the top of this home made cheesecake

It was my husband’s birthday recently and we wanted to go somewhere special. We decided to try Tarantini Italian Restaurant near Governor’s Club. We heard that the food was supposed to be good and it’s certainly close to where we live.
Tarantini’s is in a little strip mall across the street from the main entrance to the Governor’s Club in Chatham County, just south of Chapel Hill. The building is separate from the rest of the strip mall and has a [...]

Review – Artisan Pizza Kitchen in Chapel Hill

Spinach feta pizza

Sometimes you just get a hankering for a good pizza and I was in that kind of mood the other day, so Scott and I drove to downtown Chapel Hill in search of a decent pizza. We decided to try Artisan Pizza Kitchen (formerly known as Artichoke Basil) located right in the middle of Franklin Street. The outside isn’t much to look at and you could easily pass by this place if you are not paying attention, but it is [...]

Review – Pop’s Restaurant – A Trattoria in Durham

Black mussels

Durham, as many people know, has become the hip place to be in the Triangle. Much of this can be attributed to the dozens of new restaurants that have popped up in recent years, along with the development of the American Tobacco complex and the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC). But, there were also some groundbreaking restaurants who had started the trend years before it became popular to hang out in Durham after dark, including Pop’s Restaurant, A Durham Trattoria.  [...]
